Camino, Day 2: Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Roncesvalles

Expenses (in euros):

Breakfast (included with last night's hostel stay)
Lunch: Cheese and bread bought yesterday
Dinner: 14.5
Hostel: 20
Laundry (wash and dry service at the hostel in Roncesvalles): 2.70

I'm almost too tired to blog tonight! What a day. 27km, most of them uphill, including the highest point on the trail, Col de Lepoeder (1,450m) and we crossed into Spain. Our guidebook warned the first day would be a bit of a baptism by fire and it was right. Thank goodness we can grab a good night's sleep knowing one of the hardest days on the trail is behind us and we've got a relatively easy day in store tomorrow.

The hostel at the monastery in Roncesvalles appears wonderfully medieval on the outside and is surprisingly modern on the inside. The hostel's interior was renovated extensively by it's Dutch proprietors in 2011 and the facilities include an well stocked kitchen, laundry and library.

Off to bed in hopes we'll be ready for another early start tomorrow! Buenas noches!
